Arrested Development News – “Surprising” & “Brilliant”
Following the red carpet premiere of Arrested Development‘s long-awaited fourth season, the show’s stars have hinted to various publications what we might expect from the new episodes, which go live all at once on May 26 on Netflix. The verdict? Well, the words “surprising” and “brilliant” come up.
“As many surprises as there were the first time around, there’s gonna be that and more this time around. We’re just as messed up — there’s clearly an ostrich walking around the carpet, so I don’t know if that’s providing some kind of sign,” Tony Hale (Buster Bluth) told the Huffington Post. He went on to explain that, due to the fact that each episode is built around a particular character, even he doesn’t know the whole story.
Meanwhile, Jessica Walters (Lucille Bluth) had this to say to CNN: “It’s thrilling, because the writing has been so brilliant, and it’s as if seven years never went by — which is nice, when you’re my age. It was surreal, the first time we got back together. I think fans are going to be thrilled. When I read the scripts — about which we can’t say anything — I was blown away.” Portia de Rossi (Lindsay Bluth) admitted she was surprised by how similar the Netflix episodes seemed, despite the seven long years that have gone by since the show went off the air. “I’m just happy to make more episodes for the fans. … It’s most likely going to be funny, and kind of brilliant,” she said.
Jason Bateman (Michael Bluth) told USA Today that the episodes will pick up in real time, so seven years have also gone by for the characters, and time has apparently not been kind to any of them. “So we’re all kind of a little banged up.” Meanwhile, Jeffrey Tambor admitted that even he wasn’t sure why an ostrich was present for the red carpet event: “Is he in the show?” I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see.
